যুক্তরাজ্যে বসবাসরত বাংলাদেশি কমিউনিটির অধিকার আদায়, আইনগত সহায়তা এবং আর্থ-সামাজিক উন্নয়নে অসামান্য অবদানের স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপ সংবিধান বিশেষজ্ঞ, বাংলাদেশ সুপ্রিম কোর্টের আপিল বিভাগের আইনজীবী ও ব্রিটিশ সুপ্রিম কোর্টের প্র্যাকটিসিং ব্যারিস্টার নাজির আহমদ-কে “প্রবাসী সম্মাননা–২০২৫” প্রদান করা হচ্ছে।
আগামী শনিবার, ২৭ ডিসেম্বর ২০২৫, সিলেটের কবি নজরুল অডিটোরিয়ামে সিলেট জেলা প্রশাসনের আয়োজনে প্রথমবারের মতো অনুষ্ঠিত এক বিশেষ অনুষ্ঠানে তাকে এ সম্মাননা প্রদান করা হবে। অনুষ্ঠানে সভাপতিত্ব করবেন সিলেটের জেলা প্রশাসক এবং প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত থাকবেন আইন ও প্রবাসী কল্যাণ এবং বৈদেশিক কর্মসংস্থান মন্ত্রণালয়ের উপদেষ্টা ড. আসিফ নজরুল।
সিলেট জেলা প্রশাসনের পক্ষ থেকে অতিরিক্ত জেলা প্রশাসক (এডিসি) মাসুদ রানা সম্প্রতি ব্যারিস্টার নাজির আহমদকে এ সম্মাননার বিষয়টি আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে অবহিত করেন।
ব্যারিস্টার নাজির আহমদ বাংলাদেশে এসএসসি ও এইচএসসি পরীক্ষায় মানবিক বিভাগে শিক্ষাবোর্ডের মেধাবৃত্তি লাভ করেন। পরবর্তীতে তিনি লন্ডন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কুইন মেরি কলেজ থেকে কৃতিত্বের সঙ্গে এলএলবি (অনার্স) এবং এলএলএম সম্পন্ন করেন। ১৯৯৯ সালে তিনি অনারেবল সোসাইটি অব লিংকনস ইন থেকে বার-এট-ল ডিগ্রি অর্জন করে ব্যারিস্টার হিসেবে অভিষিক্ত হন।
তিনি একই সঙ্গে সুপ্রিম কোর্ট অব ইংল্যান্ড অ্যান্ড ওয়েলসের সলিসিটার, এবং বাংলাদেশ সুপ্রিম কোর্টের (হাইকোর্ট ও আপিল বিভাগ) তালিকাভুক্ত অ্যাডভোকেট। আন্তর্জাতিক আরবিট্রেশনে তাঁর বিশেষ দক্ষতা রয়েছে এবং তিনি চার্টার্ড ইনস্টিটিউট অব আরবিট্রেটরস–এর সর্বোচ্চ গ্রেডের ফেলো (FClArb)—যা অল্প কয়েকজন বাংলাদেশির অর্জন।
এছাড়াও তিনি চার্টার্ড ম্যানেজমেন্ট ইনস্টিটিউট (FCMI), রয়্যাল সোসাইটি অব পাবলিক হেলথ (FRSPH), ইনস্টিটিউট অব সেলস অ্যান্ড মার্কেটিং ম্যানেজমেন্ট (FInsSMM)–এর ফেলো এবং চার্টার্ড ইনস্টিটিউট অব লিংগুইস্টস (MCIL)–এর সদস্য।
রাজনৈতিক অঙ্গনেও ব্যারিস্টার নাজির আহমদের অবদান উল্লেখযোগ্য। তিনি ২০১৮ সালে রেকর্ড ভোটে লন্ডন বারা অব নিউহ্যাম কাউন্সিলের কাউন্সিলর নির্বাচিত হন এবং পরপর তিনবার ডেপুটি স্পিকার ও ডেপুটি সিভিক অ্যাম্বাসেডরের দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।
প্রবাসীদের স্বার্থ রক্ষায় দ্বৈত নাগরিকত্ব আইন বাতিল, প্রবাসীদের ভোটাধিকার নিশ্চিতকরণ, পাসপোর্টে পুলিশ ভেরিফিকেশন জটিলতা নিরসনসহ বহু গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ইস্যুতে তিনি অগ্রণী ভূমিকা রাখেন।
মানবিক কাজেও তিনি সুপরিচিত। তিনি আন্তর্জাতিক দাতব্য সংস্থা ইকরা ইন্টারন্যাশনাল-এর চেয়ারম্যান। তাঁর তত্ত্বাবধানে সিলেটে প্রতিবন্ধী শিশু হাসপাতালসহ নানামুখী মানবকল্যাণ কার্যক্রম পরিচালিত হচ্ছে। পাশাপাশি তাঁর প্রতিষ্ঠিত Barrister Nazir Ahmed Foundation এবং Inspire a Million বাংলাদেশের দরিদ্র ও মেধাবী শিক্ষার্থীদের সহায়তায় কাজ করে যাচ্ছে।
কমিউনিটিতে একজন গ্রহণযোগ্য অভিভাবক হিসেবে ব্যারিস্টার নাজির আহমদ দীর্ঘদিন ধরে সামাজিক, পারিবারিক ও আইনগত বিরোধ নিষ্পত্তিতে মধ্যস্থতাকারীর ভূমিকা পালন করে আসছেন। “প্রবাসী সম্মাননা–২০২৫” তাঁর দীর্ঘদিনের নিষ্ঠা ও অবদানেরই রাষ্ট্রীয় স্বীকৃতি।
UK Barrister Nazir Ahmed Honoured with “Expatriate Award 2025”

Renowned constitutional expert, Advocate of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and practising Barrister of the UK Supreme Court, Barrister Nazir Ahmed, has been selected for the prestigious “Expatriate Award 2025” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Bangladeshi diaspora and community development.
The award will be formally presented on Saturday, 27 December 2025, at Kazi Nazrul Auditorium in Sylhet, in a special ceremony organised for the first time by the Sylhet District Administration. The event will be chaired by the District Commissioner of Sylhet, while Dr Asif Nazrul, Adviser to the Ministry of Law, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, will attend as the Chief Guest.
Barrister Nazir Ahmed was recently informed of this honour by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Masud Rana on behalf of the district administration.
Barrister Ahmed is a former merit scholarship recipient in both SSC and HSC examinations in Bangladesh. He completed his LLB (Honours) and LLM with distinction from Queen Mary University of London. In 1999, he was called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn.
He is a qualified Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, as well as an Advocate of the High Court and Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He holds extensive expertise in international arbitration and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb)—one of the highest professional distinctions in the field.
He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI), Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH), Institute of Sales and Marketing Management (FInsSMM), and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (MCIL).
In public service, Barrister Nazir Ahmed was elected in 2018 as a Councillor of Newham Council, London, receiving the highest number of votes among Bangladeshi-origin councillors nationwide. He later served three consecutive terms as Deputy Speaker and Deputy Civic Ambassador of the council.
A tireless advocate for expatriates, he played a key role in opposing harmful dual citizenship proposals, campaigning for overseas voting rights, and resolving power of attorney and passport verification complexities for expatriate Bangladeshis.
Beyond his legal career, he is Chairman of the international charity Iqra International, overseeing humanitarian initiatives in Bangladesh, including a specialised hospital for children with disabilities in Sylhet. He also founded the Barrister Nazir Ahmed Foundation and Inspire a Million, dedicated to supporting underprivileged communities and inspiring students across Bangladesh.
Widely respected as a community mediator and leader, Barrister Nazir Ahmed’s selection for the Expatriate Award 2025 stands as a well-deserved recognition of his decades-long service, integrity, and commitment to justice and humanity.
